WATER SAFETY TIPS
POOL SAFETY
INSTALL A POOL FENCE
- It should totally separate the house & yard from the pool area
- Minimal height should be 4 feet
- Wrought Iron Bars should be no more than 6 inches apart
- Use self-closing gates/latches that are at the top of the fence & open outward
- Automatic door locks & alarms are available

SWIMMING SUPERVISION
- No one of any age should swim alone if there is no one home
- When kids are in the pool a parent &/or licensed swimmer should be present at all time
- Do NOT turn away from the pool use your cell phone

DON'T BE DISTRACTED BY BEING OVERLY INVOLVED
- In a conversation with another adult
- Taking care of a baby
- In extended cell phone conversations
- Your exercisei routine in or out of the pool

DO NOT LEAVE THE POOL AREA TO
- Answer the front door
- Answer a phone in your home
- Check on something cooking in the kitchen
- Go to the Bathroom
- Respond if someone from inside the house tells you to come in to do something
If you can't find another adult &/or licensed swimmer to supervise,
the kids must be taken out of the pool & the gate locked until you can return

AFTER POOL USE
All goggles, toys, floats & balls should be removed from the pool

BOATING SAFETY
CHECK LOCAL WEATHER CONDITIONS
Strong winds & thunderstorms with lightning are dangerous
WEAR U.S. COAST GUARD APPROVED LIFE JACKETS
No exceptions even if you
- Can Swim
- Have a swimming license
- Are a lifeguard
- Are an adult
- Do not plan to go far from the shore or dock
DANGER SIGNS
Come back to the shore or dock if you see
- Colored beach warning flags
- Dangerous waves
- Rip Tides
- Water that is discolored & choppy,
foamy or filled with debris
