Summer bliss quickly turns to summer blues as your Bais Yaakov girls look for something unique to do rather than going to the same camp every year.
That is unless this year
they have decided to experience a whole new type of camp!
- This camp was founded 20 years ago & was once a well kept secret but has quickly gained fame for being a camp unlike any other.
- The Camp is the only overnight girl's camp in the L.A. area.
- It was originally created to serve Los Angelenos who previously had to fly east to attend
camp,however Vayachanu has been attracting campers from all over the world.
- Vayachanu combines an atmosphere of Torah with joys of discover, adventure, achdus & independence.
- It's located in the beautiful community of Big Bear, California on the shores of Big Bear Lake.
- This camp has redefined the overnight camp experience.
1. Vayachanu is a small camp with only 40 girls.
2. However, it's small size is entirely by choice & therefore registration is extremely limited, based on personal interview of potential campers.
3. Although campers are turned away, increasing the size wouldn't allow for the close-knit heimishe atmosphere, the friendship between counselors & campers nor many of the
unique activities.
4. Beware prospective campers, this camp is not for the weak at heart.
5. Campers participate in an array of activities that the timid hearted wouldn't dare to venture
on including hiking, wave running, banana boating, tubing and para-sailing.
6. The camps frum atmosphere allows the girls to experience these activities while still
maintaining the Tznius & eidelkeit they uphold all year long
7. All this adventure is perfectly tempered by those activities meant to cultivate the
ruchniyus, intellectual & creative facets of the campers.
A summer at Vayachanu is geared to totally
& completely enhancing the camper's growth.
- The girls are provided with daily learning on topics that are often overlooked or brushed
over in a formal education setting. - Shiurim are given in a give & take workshop forum & all questions are always addressed.
- Art classes, skits, competitions & the various theme days, all enhance the creative potential
of each camper. - Yet, the most unique aspect of the camp is that the girls are put to work & they love it.
1. There's no shirking your housework in this Camp
2. Campers are not only expected to maintain the cleanliness in their own rooms but they
are responsible for the day-to-day cooking, setting up & clearing
3. Mom's be awed that the girls actually wash dishes & vacuum.
4. Like all of the other activites at Vayachanu, meal planning allows the girls to once again
learn new talents & use their creativity.
5. The girls love to eat the food prepared by their peers.
6. Since they are pretty active they can enjoy the gourmet healthy meals without worrying about weight gain.
7. If all of this sounds a little tiring don't worry, the campers are allowed time on their own.
8. Big Bear is a quaint village that they can explore & shop, plus they have a swimming
pool & Jacuzzi on the camp premises plus there's hiking only a block away
9. So you can see these girls can always keep themselves busy.

Camp Vayachanu is a 3 week eperience, whose short duration
is geared to allow the campers time to attend other camps
or get jobs for the rest of the summer,
yet memories of the 'uncamp camp' will last a life time.
