THE RECYCLING CODE
Look on the bottom of your plastic to find the recycling symbol.
There is a number inside.
SAFE
- 1, 2, 4 & 5 are the safest
- If the code is a “1,” that means do NOT reuse the plastic
(water bottles, take-out containers)
UNSAFE
- Using 3 & 6 because they may leach harmful chemicals
- 7 because this includes plastics with BPA
Studies show that BPA imitates estrogen
& can negatively effect hormones,
fertility,
brain functions & the prostate gland.
It is currently found in most canned & plastic products.
USE PLASTICS PROPERLY
SAFE
- Storing leftovers in the refrigerator
UNSAFE
- For heating or cooking
- If sits in your car with closed windows if above 75 degrees

SAFE
- Ceramic Glass
- Wax Paper
- Paper Towel
UNSAFE
- Plastic containers including take-out containers
- Plastic wrap

IN THE DISHWASHER
UNSAFE
Washing plastic contains in the dishwasher risks leaching out of BPAs.

IN THE FREEZER
SAFE
Only freeze plastic containers if it says on the label
that they are safe for freezer usage.
UNSAFE

& this increases the chance of chemicals
leaching
into the food when you thaw or reheat it.
