AEROBIC EXERCISE
GROWS YOUR MEMORY
Aerobic exercise improves your ability to
- Coordinate multiple tasks
- Plan for the future
- Stick to a task for long periods of time
- Exercise improves the ability of different parts of the brain to work together
Gray & white matter
usually diminish with age
- You should start walking before you become a senior but certainly by age 60
- Take brisk walks at least 3 times a week
- After 6 months of walking, there is an improvement in gray & white brain matter
The hippocampus,
the key for memory formation,
shrinks 1 - 2% each year
for those 60 & older
- If you’re over 60 & start a fitness program which includes brisk walking
- Work your way up to 'power' walking
- Your hippocampus will re-grow by 1-2% instead of shrinking more
